Having been an actor for most of my adult life, being on set, while always exciting is nothing new for me. However, being on set and working with my daughter is brand new a highlight. Recently Hannah and I had the most amazing mother-daughter day ever! We were blessed to book a commercial together. Not only was it for Subaru, which is a fantastic vehicle, but it’s also promoting their “Share The Love Event”.
Every year during the holiday season (mid-November to January) when a customer buys or leases a Subaru, they have a choice of one of four national charities or participating select Hometown Charities to donate $250. It’s Subaru’s amazing way of “giving back” and sowing into those in need. We were honored to be part of the campaign in support of the ASPCA, which couldn’t have been more perfect for my little animal lover. The other national organizations include Make-A-Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels America, and the National Park Foundation.
As actors, we are grateful to book work. To be a tiny part of something that’s doing so much good, adds another layer of gratitude. Thousands and thousands are truly being impacted by Subaru’s act of giving. However, as a mom, it goes even deeper. As Hannah decides to venture down this road in the entertainment business, I’m thrilled that I can also “share my love” of the craft, my knowledge, support, and protection in such a unique way so that her start is smooth. This is the second commercial we’ve done together and it’s always wonderful to receive such positive feedback on her candor and professionalism on set. She had to hit specific marks, improvise dialogue, work with both animals and a child younger than her. I believe there’s some old Hollywood quote about avoiding both but she knocked it out of the park…as did the other little girl… and the dog. This opportunity was a wonderful hands-on learning experience for Hannah and a true blessing to by her side to talk her though. We all want to support the dreams of our children, passing along what we know to help them prosper. Stewarding my kids through this season as they enter the fray that is the “entertainment business” has breathed new life and purpose into my past experiences. They’ve now translated into real wisdom for my kids. I’m excited to share the love and the dream, seeing where it all goes.
